PlayStation has today unveiled a new DualSense controller, inspired by upcoming PS5 release Astro Bot.
The controller itself boasts all the features you would expect from a DualSense, such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. These will all come into play when Astro Bot releases later this year (although, with more textures to feel through the controller than with Astro’s Playroom). So far, so normal.
Things get a little more exciting when you get to the cosmetic side of things, however. The upcoming controller has Astro’s blue accents on the handles and buttons, some sci-fi style grooves and – the most eye-catching feature in every sense – Astro’s “trademark playful pair of eyes” on the DualSense’s touchpad.

The remaster of 2011 action-adventure Shadows of the Damned is set to release this Halloween.

Developer Grasshopper Manufacture announced the remaster last year, which will release across PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. It’s a cult-classic demon-shooting game written by Suda 51 (Killer 7) and produced by Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil).

News of the release date – and live pre-orders – was included in a new trailer filled with gore and screams. I’m not joking, you might want headphones for this one.

UPDATE 24/7/24 3pm UK: Humble Games has denied using AI to write yesterday’s statement that characterised the reported layoffs of the brand’s entire staff as a “restructuring”.

Responding to a series of follow-up questions from Eurogamer, a Humble Games spokesperson declined to confirm details provided earlier by former Humble Bundle creative lead Chris Radley, reported below, that the changes amounted to the Humble Games brand winding down its work for good, with a third-party firm brought in temporarily to handle any leftover work.

“Humble Games operations will continue as per the statement,” the spokesperson said, when asked whether any new titles might still be signed in future.

Publishers hoping to launch the world’s next big live service game often give up on projects too soon, the boss of Warframe developer Digital Extremes has said.

Live service games with so-so launches could still be salvaged with more work, Digital Extreme’s Steve Sinclair told VGC, rather than moving on and ditching years of progress.

“They think the release is make or break, and it’s not. They have a financial way to be persistent, and they never do it,” Sinclair said. “It comes out, doesn’t work and they throw it away.”

Warframe, which originally launched in 2013, is still going strong a decade on. But plenty of other live service games end up shutting in just a fraction of the time.

A Microsoft team leader has emailed thousands of staff to protest the closure of a major internal group focused on promoting diversity, equity and inclusion within the company.

The outgoing staff member blasted Microsoft’s decision to cut their team amid a wider cooling in the corporate space to the need for diversity groups generally.

UPDATE 12pm UK: Fortnite has now formally detailed how players can get their hands on the Cybertruck, and as suspected (below) the vehicle has ultimately been revealed as a free reward.

Players can add the Cybertruck to their in-game garage without paying Elon Musk a penny by completing a series of in-game quests between now and 7th August. The vehicle will also be available in Rocket League via a similar manner, and is a cross-game unlock.
