Buying digital games means you're just purchasing a license, California will force storefronts to admit

California will soon require storefronts to make clear that purchasing digital content, including games, movies and music, does not mean you actually own it.

As of next year, Californian customers will be informed that buying a game on Steam, for example, means they are simply acquiring a license for the content. Terms such as “buy” and “purchase” will be banned from the sale process unless sufficient caveats are added.

The new legislation, AB 2426 – signed into law by Californian governer Gavin Newsom and first reported by The Verge – is designed to make consumers more aware of the sometimes-temporary nature of digital ownership.

Over the past few months, Ubisoft sparked headlines after it switched off its racer The Crew and subsequently removed it from …

Star Wars Outlaws patch to fix "incredibly punishing" stealth sections is now live

Just days after pledging a fix for Star Wars Outlaws’ “unfair” and “incredibly punishing” insta-fail stealth sequences, Ubisoft has released a brand-new patch doing just that – and it introduces a bunch of other features, including cross-progression support, too.

It’s unclear how extensive these initial changes to stealth are in Outlaws’ new Title Update 1.1.2, with today’s patch notes failing to go into much detail. They do, however, promise “tweaks and improvement on some challenging stealth moments”, with an additional note confirming the “level of detection [has been] adjusted depending on location”, and that players are now “less likely to be detected while rolling.”

1.1.2’s next big addition is support for cross-progression and cross-saving via Ubisoft …

Silent Hill 2 Remake's first 90 minutes are online a month before its official release

Can’t wait until 8th October to revisit Silent Hill? Here’s a free visit to everyone’s special place courtesy of a Japanese content creator who has streamed the first 90 minutes of Silent Hill 2 Remake to YouTube.
The hugely popular 兄者弟者 (Siblings) YouTube channel has seemingly shared the footage by official sanction from Konami, which suggests this shouldn’t get struck or pulled down by a pesky copyright notice. Which is just as well, as the video’s only been out a few days, and it’s already clocked up over half a million views.
Consider this your warning to read no further and be aware of video clips online if you’re looking to avoid spoilers altogether ahead of release.

Pokémon Go Dynamax, including how to Dynamax and get Dynamax Pokémon

Dynamax in Pokémon Go refers to a new mechanic which sees your Pokémon grow to ginormous size for a short period of time in battle.
It took nearly five years for Dynamaxing to make its way into Pokémon Go after first debuting in Pokémon Sword and Shield for the Nintendo Switch, but now you can finally see your Pokémon take on enormous forms. So tall, in fact, little clouds appear around their heads. There’s a host of Dynamax Pokémon to catch in Pokémon Go and hopefully we’ll see more arrive soon.
At the time of writing, however, it’s important to note that the Dynamax mechanic hasn’t been fully released in Pokémon Go yet. This will occur on Tuesday 10th September when Max Battles are released.
It’s still a go…

Larian has detailed what Baldur’s Gate 3 players can expect from the seventh patch, due out in September.

As previously reported, the patch will include mod support and, in a new post on Steam, the studio has given a brief look at what some creators have achieved in the Closed Alpha.

But there are other additions coming too, including a much-needed tweak to split-screen play – dynamic split-screen mode – which allows players in multiplayer to split the screen and automatically merge it back into one when near each other.
