Destiny 2 targeted in lawsuit from writer who says Bungie copied his work

Bungie is being sued for copyright infringement by a writer who claims the studio copied his “original work about a unique and captivating fantasy world” for Destiny 2’s Red War campaign.

The lawsuit (as spotted by TheGamePost) was filed with the US District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana by author Kelsey Martineau. He accuses Bungie of “deliberately copying and appropriating [his] copyrighted content”, arguing aspects of Destiny 2’s Red War storyline – its antagonistic Red Legion army, in particular – were taken “directly” from an original work published via Wordpress years before the (now vaulted) Destiny 2 campaign’s 2017 release.

According to the lawsuit, Martineau, using the pen name Caspar Cole, authored his “original work about a unique a…

Silent Hill 2 Remake Wikipedia page locked after salty fans try to rewrite its critically-acclaimed reception

Wikipedia has had to lock down the Silent Hill 2 Remake page after repeated vandalism from editors who refuse to accept that the remake of Konami’s seminal horror game released to critical acclaim earlier this week.
Outright lies around the games reception and metacritic score – including one edit that said the game had “received the worst reviews imaginable” – means the page has now been put into a semi-protected state to stop unregistered users from making wild, unsubstantiated claims, including one that said Eurogamer had awarded it 0/5 stars when, in fact, it got top marks.

What Halo on Unreal Engine 5 means for PS5

Today’s announcements by the newly-rebranded Halo Studios – formerly 343 Industries – that multiple new Halo games are in development has excited fans of Microsoft’s flagship Xbox franchise. But is there cause for celebration for PlayStation 5 owners too?

Halo Studios has said it will now develop all future Halo projects using Unreal Engine 5, the Epic Games-made toolkit for game development that’s used widely across the industry. It’s set to power the next Witcher and Tomb Raider installments, and can be seen in action this week within the highly-acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake.

Discussing the move to Unreal Engine, Halo Studios said the change means faster, smoother development and iteration is now possible, while it will also allow for an easier onboarding…

Acclaimed plague horror Pathologic is getting a third instalment, this time with time travel

Pathologic, the acclaimed plague-themed horror series from developer Ice-Pick Lodge, is returning for a third instalment, this time slinging time travel into its gruelling, emotionally draining mix of intentionally dispiriting survival and haunting theatrics.

The newly announced Pathologic 3 is something of an oddity in that it’s technically, sort of, the second chunk of Pathologic 2 – itself a half sequel and half (much-improved) remake of Ice-Pick Lodge’s cult-classic 2005 original. Pathological 1 – which, as with all entries in the series, charts the sudden decline of a strange, small town on the edge of the Russian Steppe as it slowly succumbs to a mysterious plague – memorably had three playable characters and three distinct routes through its 12 days of i…

Eurogamer Newscast: When it costs £700, who exactly is the PS5 Pro for?

Bethesda pulls Thatcher's Techbase Doom mod again, says maker now "deliberately disobeying a Zenimax employee"

Bethesda has removed the freshly-returned Thatcher’s Techbase Doom mod once again – despite its creator having cheekily scrubbed it of all political references.

The publisher of Doom previously pulled the mod, which satirises the late and highly-controversial British prime minister, for the inclusion of “real-world politics”.

But this week the mod returned in a blaze of malicious compliance, retitled ███████’█ Techbase and now with images of Thatcher covered over. The game’s soundtrack was even changed from minor to major key. Alas, its return did not last long.

“Bad news everyone,” Thatcher’s Techbase mod creator Jim wrote on X last night, posting an image of Bethesda’s latest…

Ubisoft staff told to strike over remote working changes

French staff at Assassin’s Creed publisher Ubisoft have been urged to strike for three days next month, after being told they should return to the office three days a week.

The call to walk out, first reported by GamesIndustry.biz, comes a week after Ubisoft announced that all of its 19,000 employees worldwide would be required to work from the office three days out of every five – albeit with some flexibility for certain individuals, and without a firm start date for the change.

Members of the French video game workers union STJV (Syndicat des Travailleurs et Travailleuses du Jeu Vidéo) have now called on Ubisoft staff to strike on 15th to 17th October.

The move back to the office three days a week is one “without any tangible justification or any c…
