Microsoft staffer blasts decision to lay off internal team focused on diversity due to "changing business needs"

A Microsoft team leader has emailed thousands of staff to protest the closure of a major internal group focused on promoting diversity, equity and inclusion within the company.

The outgoing staff member blasted Microsoft’s decision to cut their team amid a wider cooling in the corporate space to the need for diversity groups generally.

A quote from the email first published by Business Insider claims that the team had been told it was “eliminated due to ‘changing business needs'”.

In response, a Microsoft spokesperson told the publication in statement, also shared with Eurogamer, that its “D&I commitments remain unchanged. Our focus on diversity and inclusion is unwavering and we are holding firm on our expectations, prioritising accountability, and …

Cities: Skylines 2 DLC gets further delays as developer priorities assets editor

With the first anniversary of Cities: Skylines 2’s disastrous launch approaching, publisher Paradox Interactive has announced further delays to the game’s DLC as developer Colossal Order focuses its efforts on completing the “crucial” assets editor.

Colossal Order initially delayed Cities: Skylines 2’s DLC last November, amid significant criticism of the game’s performance. As a result, its Beach Properties Asset Pack was moved from its original 2023 release date to Q1 2024, while the Urban Promenades and Modern Architecture Creator Packs, and Bridges & Ports expansion shifted from Q1 2024 to Q2.

Unfortunately, Beach Properties’ eventual arrival was slammed by players for its high price and lacklustre content. As a result, Paradox issued an apology for it…

Bethesda pulls Thatcher's Techbase Doom mod again, says maker now "deliberately disobeying a Zenimax employee"

Bethesda has removed the freshly-returned Thatcher’s Techbase Doom mod once again – despite its creator having cheekily scrubbed it of all political references.

The publisher of Doom previously pulled the mod, which satirises the late and highly-controversial British prime minister, for the inclusion of “real-world politics”.

But this week the mod returned in a blaze of malicious compliance, retitled ███████’█ Techbase and now with images of Thatcher covered over. The game’s soundtrack was even changed from minor to major key. Alas, its return did not last long.

“Bad news everyone,” Thatcher’s Techbase mod creator Jim wrote on X last night, posting an image of Bethesda’s latest…

Ubisoft staff told to strike over remote working changes

French staff at Assassin’s Creed publisher Ubisoft have been urged to strike for three days next month, after being told they should return to the office three days a week.

The call to walk out, first reported by GamesIndustry.biz, comes a week after Ubisoft announced that all of its 19,000 employees worldwide would be required to work from the office three days out of every five – albeit with some flexibility for certain individuals, and without a firm start date for the change.

Members of the French video game workers union STJV (Syndicat des Travailleurs et Travailleuses du Jeu Vidéo) have now called on Ubisoft staff to strike on 15th to 17th October.

The move back to the office three days a week is one “without any tangible justification or any c…
