What Halo on Unreal Engine 5 means for PS5

Today’s announcements by the newly-rebranded Halo Studios – formerly 343 Industries – that multiple new Halo games are in development has excited fans of Microsoft’s flagship Xbox franchise. But is there cause for celebration for PlayStation 5 owners too?

Halo Studios has said it will now develop all future Halo projects using Unreal Engine 5, the Epic Games-made toolkit for game development that’s used widely across the industry. It’s set to power the next Witcher and Tomb Raider installments, and can be seen in action this week within the highly-acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake.

Here're the 19 new Atari 50 games coming in this week's Wider World of Atari DLC

With just a day to go until the launch of Atari 50’s paid The Wider World of Atari DLC, developer Digital Eclipse has revealed all 19 titles it’ll be adding to its acclaimed interactive museum.

Digital Eclipse announced more Atari 50 was coming back in June, explaining an additional 39 games would be joining the original selection as part of a new Expanded Edition before 2024 was through. More specifically, the Expanded Edition includes two new timelines exploring different facets of Atari’s history – The Wider World of Atari and The First Console War – and both are being released as separate bits of DLC for existing Atari 50 owners.

Buying digital games means you're just purchasing a license, California will force storefronts to admit

California will soon require storefronts to make clear that purchasing digital content, including games, movies and music, does not mean you actually own it.

As of next year, Californian customers will be informed that buying a game on Steam, for example, means they are simply acquiring a license for the content. Terms such as “buy” and “purchase” will be banned from the sale process unless sufficient caveats are added.

The new legislation, AB 2426 – signed into law by Californian governer Gavin Newsom and first reported by The Verge – is designed to make consumers more aware of the sometimes-temporary nature of digital ownership.
